Description
The Multimedia Filtration Plant is an efficient water pre-treatment system designed for removing suspended particles, turbidity, sediments, and other physical impurities from water. It uses a multi-layer filtration process with different grades and types of filter media to provide effective depth filtration.
The filtration vessel typically contains layers of anthracite, silica sand, garnet, and supporting gravel, arranged according to the raw-water characteristics and required filtration performance. As water passes through these media layers, particles of different sizes are trapped at different depths within the filter bed.
The system is particularly useful as a pre-treatment stage for Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants, helping reduce the particulate load reaching downstream equipment and supporting better RO system performance.
The Multimedia Filtration Plant can be designed in FRP, MS, or SS vessels and configured with manual or automatic control valves depending on the application. The filtration media, vessel size, flow rate, and backwash requirements can be customized according to raw-water analysis and system capacity.

How Multimedia Filtration Plant Works
Raw water enters the filtration vessel and flows through multiple layers of filter media. Each layer is selected to capture particles of different sizes.
Anthracite generally provides coarse filtration in the upper layer, while sand provides finer filtration. Garnet can provide additional fine-depth filtration, and gravel acts as a supporting and distribution layer.
As water passes through the media bed, suspended solids and particulate impurities are trapped within the different layers. The filtered water then moves to the next stage of the water-treatment process, such as activated carbon filtration, water softening, or Reverse Osmosis.
When the filter bed accumulates impurities, a backwash cycle is carried out to remove the trapped particles and restore filtration performance.
